Customers sometimes ask us for a "true stainless steel rice cooker." When you search for stainless rice cookers, you find many advertised, but they usually turn out to be standard rice cookers with nonstick interior, and the only stainless is on the outside housing. Reputable companies won't sell "conventional" style rice cookers with stainless interiors because the rice sticks in them. Some places do offer to sell such cookers, but you'll find disclaimers about using oil to "help" prevent sticking and, for the most part, the rice will still stick.

A new type of product is available that provides a terrific answer to the demand for a stainless-interior rice cooker. In the past, pressure cookers were hissing, spitting, scary contraptions that no one would want to use unless they absolutely had to. But a new generation of pressure cookers is available now, and Kuhn Rikon makes the best of them, in Switzerland. At Pleasant Hill Grain we couldn't be more delighted with their products. Unlike the pressure cookers of old, Swiss-made Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers aren't designed for pressure canning; they're made for meal preparation.
