The Torrey meat grinder and meat saw that I purchased are really outstanding products. I am used to the Cabela's (TM) models and with those grinders, I would always have to stop the machine every few minutes or so and clean out the auger area. You will see that the grinding rate for the 2 HP model M22-RW2 is very similar to the 1 HP model M22-RW, below. This is because both have the same size throat and grinding plate. The RW2 is preferred for grinding especially tough materials such as game meat and whole chickens including the bones, where the extra horsepower is advantageous. For larger animals, with any grinder, all bone must be removed.

Grinding Speed: We timed this grinder at 10 lbs. of beef in 10 minutes. The manufacturer rates it at 800 watts; we don't know how they arrived at that number -- we'd say it performs like a good 200 watt grinder. Can be run continuously. Motor has built-in circuit breaker.

Notes on Electrical Requirements

Voltage:

In the U.S., virtually all electrical service provides both 110 volt and 220 volt power. A 220v connection is like what an electric clothes dryer or electric kitchen range uses. Because there are many styles of 220 volt receptacles, 220 volt grinders usually are supplied with plain cord end, and user supplies a plug to match their receptacle.

3-Phase & 1-Phase

Some of our largest machines (as noted in the specs lists) require 3-phase power. If you don't know whether you have 3-phase power, your utility company or electrician can tell you. If you do not have 3-phase power, you'll need to select a grinder made for 1-phase (aka "single phase") power. Note that the Torrey M32 3hp grinder is available in either 3-phase or 1-phase models. If you really want to use a large (5 hp or more) grinder but don't have 3-phase power, a rotary phase converter can be used to change your power to 3-phase. Call if you need more information about phase converters.
