"I picked up my new mixer at Pleasant Hill Grain and was just overwhelmed by this perfectly manicured, idyllic farm setting. My husband and I were both very impressed.
Jack was very helpful to show us the DLX sitting there and my only shock was at its “small” size. I say that because I had read online that they take up a lot of space, and happily, that's not true at all. The bowl capacity is big, but the overall machine is very compact. So there it was, gleaming and beautiful and calling my name. I was instantly impressed and I knew it was going to be a winner. We boxed it up and it was mine!
At home I first mixed up a batch of sourdough pagnotta bread (Italian) that I’ve made many times to compare to how it mixes in my KitchenAid mixer. Well, that was like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Volkswagen. I was just beside myself with joy. Not only did the DLX do a fabulous job, it was easy, it was fun, and it was surprisingly quiet for a 600 watt motor (much quieter than my KA Artisan 5.) No problems at all. I felt I was able to get great gluten development with this very high hydration dough that I’d not gotten at that same point with my KA mixer.
Next, I had to use it again right away. I thought the test would be to cream butter and sugar so I mixed up a batch of Martha Stewart’s wonderful raisin-oatmeal cookie cupcakes. Yum! Again, “piece of cake”, and I had no problems at all creaming perfectly fluffy and wonderfully mixed white and brown sugar and butter. Mixed in all the other stuff and voila, I had perfect muffin batter. It happened to be a recipe that called for hand mixing in the raisins at the end with the coconut. Not me. I dumped that stuff in and whipped it through that DLX (did I say I used the roller for all of this) and it mixed like a dream. Cupcake muffins turned out fabulous!
So I have two tries under the belt at this point and both a great success. I’m so excited I can’t really tell you enough. I must have told my husband a hundred times yesterday, 'I LOVE my new mixer!' I am grateful to have found such a great place to do business with and, again, Pleasant Hill Grain is just that, a very pleasant place. Thanks for your help, I enjoyed doing business with you." – CL, Omaha NE |
