Use of the Bosch/FGM Adapter

This page illustrates the use of the Bosch Adapter for the Family Grain Mill, which allows Family Grain Mill accessories to be mounted on the Bosch Universal Mixer.

You can also use this adapter to put the flaker mill onto a Bosch Concept mixer, if you first attach the "accessory adapter" to the Concept mixer. To be sure this is clear, please understand that the "Concept Accessory Adapter" (available in either angled or straight version) for the Concept mixer is different from the FGM adapter, and two adapters are needed to use the flaker on the Concept... you need either an angled or straight Concept Accessory Adapter, plus you ned the FGM adapter. (Most other Concept accessories do NOT require use of any adapter at all -- the adapters are principally just for the meat grinder and the flaker mill.)


This is the Bosch Universal set on its back, which is the normal operating position for using several accessories including the meat grinder and any of the Family Grain Mill components. (Family Grain Mill components are manufactured in Germany by Messerschmidt, and they carry a lifetime warranty.)
 
This is a closeup of the adapter itself. In this image, the end that's pointing to the lower left is the end that attaches to the Bosch Universal. The end pointing away is where FGM components are to be attached. (The rest of the images on this page show the adapter flipped the other way around.)

The red button is connected to a spring-loaded pin which locks FGM components onto the adapter. The pin snaps in place automatically for attachment; for removal, the red button must be pulled back before the FGM component is removed.

The long flat piece extending toward the lower right corner of the picture is the lever that's used to lock the adapter in place on the Universal. Following images will show how the lever is used.
 
This is a closeup of the Universal's low-speed drive attachment. This photo was taken with the Universal on its back, ready for attachment of the FGM adapter. The arrow points to the slot which the adapter's locking lever fits into.
 
In this image the adapter has been slipped onto the Universal's drive. The locking lever (shown by the arrow) has not yet been rotated into the locking position.
 
Here the locking lever has been rotated to the right, securing the adapter onto the drive.
 
Now the Family Grain Mill flaker has been attached to the adapter. With the addition of a container to catch the flaked grain, the unit is ready to use. The same procedure is used for the grain mill, vegetable processor, etc.
